Clinical Surface EMG – Revision & New Users

This course is designed for Therapists who would like to learn the clinical use of Surface EMG (Revision & New Users).  The course is open for owners of any EMG make.   

The course is focused on principles of therapeutic exercises enhanced by Surface EMG Biofeedback.  This course will include clinical application of sEMG for orthopaedic and sport rehabilitation (Shirley Sharman).  Exercises enhanced by Surface EMG for the following condition will be practised:  impingement syndrome, the unstable shoulder, patellofemoral disorder, rehabilitation following ACL reconstruction, back pain (Richardson & Hodges).  Surface EMG for neurological condition, chronic tension headaches, poor posture, and incontinence will be discussed.

14H15                                    Registration

 

14H30                        Surface EMG – general principals, technical limitations.  Muscle physiology, patient considerations, uses and limitations.

 

15h00                         The Shoulder – Impingement and the unstable shoulder.  Neck and shoulder – postural considerations.  Use of the sEMG for assessment and training.  Setting goals, recording and comparison of practical sessions.

 

16h30                         Lumber stabilization programe.  Normal and abnormal muscle recruitment patterns. 

 

17h00                         The Knee – quadriceps imbalance:  assessment & training, ACL rehabilitation, lower limb malalignment – gluteus medius vs TFL

 

18h30                         Tea

 

18h45             Neurological conditions, incontinence, headaches / relaxation

 

19h00             Conclusion & Evaluation
