Michaeli, M.Sc Physio (Wits), Clinical Physiotherapist and a part-time
lecturer

Arie, who immigrated to South Africa some 15 years ago,
graduated from the Wingate Institute, Israel, in 1978 and later obtained an
advanced one-year postgraduate Diploma in Manual Therapy in Israel and a
Masters degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.
This was just the start of what has been a lifelong passion
with physiotherapy and a continual striving to remain abreast of the latest
developments in the field. The result is that Arie and his colleagues at
the Innovative Physiotherapy Centre –
Heide
Block,
B.Sc Physio (Wits)
and
Roger Cvitanich,
B.Sc Physio (UCT) – all offer their patients the most modern, up-to-date
treatments available.
Arie believes that innovative techniques should be used for
treating painful conditions. He vigorously rejects the notion of “no pain,
no gain” and consistently searches for alternative treatments.
He has therefore introduced a range of modern treatments for
conditions as varied as
“runner’s knee”,
especially suitable for
Comrades runners, back and neck pain (including pregnancy),
exercise rehabilitation
and even conditions associated with the stresses of modern living –
chronic muscle pain (fibromyalgia), insomnia and headaches.
Other
treatments available are:

McConnell taping treatment
for painful knees, shin splints, tennis elbow, painful shoulder, back pain
including pregnancy, fractures of the ribs and whiplash. Arie introduced
this to South Africa after studying under world-renowned physiotherapist,
Jenny McConnell.

neck pain,
a combination of
manual
techniques, exercises and patient education
for
recent and chronic back pain and headaches.

Acupuncture,
increasingly used by physiotherapists around the world to treat certain
muscular skeletal conditions.
